Artist gives blood donation a Christmas makeover

A South Korean artist is encouraging people to give the gift of blood this Christmas with his unique artwork featuring stocking shaped blood bags.

Lee Ki Seung designed the project while studying for his Product Design degree at the Hongik University School of Art and Design.

The 25-year-old student said: “I started off with the concept of ‘warmness’, which is frequently neglected while people are in the Christmas season as they are obsessing with physical things.

“I tried to think about how to maximise common happiness by sharing. I tried to come up with a symbol representing Christmas – Santa stockings – and sharing – blood donation – and combined them together.”

Seung is a regular donor, giving blood around three times a year.

The work is now being shown at the Helsinki Design Week exhibition in Finland, where he is currently studying for his Masters in Art and Design at the Aalto University School of Art.
