The lifetime ban on blood donations from men who had ever had sex with men was ended on November 7th 2011.
A new 12 month deferral period means gay and bisexual men must abstain from sex for a year in order to donate.
Chris Ward, of LGBT Lib Dems, is heading the campaign ‘Science not Stigma: Ending the Blood Ban’, calling for Government to review the changes. He suggests a system where donors are regulated on a case-by-case basis.
